It was January 5, 2010; the day that changed my life forever. I was 19 years old and had spent almost two decades hiding a deep truth about myself from those close to me. I was at a point in my life where I had finally come fact to face with the decision to come out. I took a huge leap of faith and found myself in a world my younger self never could’ve dreamt was possible; a world where people know that I’m gay and yet, still love me nonetheless. Throughout my coming out journey, I decided to document my thoughts and emotions in a private series that I call, The Video Journals.
Much of my passion in storytelling and the growth that I’ve experienced since coming out, all has to do with the quality time that I spent talking to my camera. The Video Journals has and always will have a very special place in my heart for getting me through some of the scariest moments in my life. Now that I’m on the other side of that, the journals have become an invaluable time capsule filled with precious memories that I’ve shared with those close to me.
One thing I know for sure is that filming The Video Journals is something that I see myself doing for the rest of my life. One of my major goals from the beginning was to have something to show my future kids so that they could see what their father’s life was like growing up. I’d be proud to share the emotional journey of my coming out story depicted in season one, as well as the fun and exciting moments that I got to film with friends and family in the years that followed.
And now, I’m happy to share that The Video Journals has reached a milestone! On June 21, 2020, the final day of Season 10 was filmed. It’s hard to believe that an entire decade is in the books. 🤯 Time is flying by way too fast! But nonetheless, with my camera in hand, I’m looking forward to what lies ahead in my life as my journey with The Video Journals continues in Season 11! 📷🙌🏾
P.S. Depending on the content, some video journals end up becoming episodes for my YouTube series, Xuffed678. So always keep an eye out for future episodes on my YouTube channel! For a fun look into The Video Journals, check out the playlist below!
